These non-contact thermometers are hand-held devices which permit us to measure the surface temperature of an object by detecting emitted, reflected and transmitted energy.
Care should be taken when using this item. It uses a laser light for targeting and can cause permanent eye damage.

To accurately measure temperatures, you need to make sure that the field of view between you and what you want to take a reading of is clear and free of obstructions. This unit cannot measure temperatures through glass, etc. It will measure the surface temperature of the glass itself. Smoke, dust and steam will also cause inaccurate readings. The further you are away from the object the less accurate the reading will be.

When experiencing temperature changes such as cold spots, this type of thermometer if very helpful in locating the possible source of drafts, etc.

We do not use it to give us the air temperature of the cold spot. We use a digital thermometer for that purpose.
